KEY POINTS:
To most people, Peugeot means thrifty diesel family cars and the odd hot-hatch.
But the French maker is moving into coupe territory with the announcement it will build a production version of the RC Z concept, unveiled last year.
The finished RC Z will be launched at next year's Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale in 2010.
The leap form concept to production will be small. Although the RC Z boasts a unique visual style, it borrows much of its front structure and cabin architecture from the existing 308 hatchback.
The RC Z is powered by a version of the 1.6-litre petrol-turbo engine from the 207/307. However, while the 207 GTi produces 128kW, the RC Z powerplant pumps out 160kW. It drives through a brand-new six-speed manual gearbox.
