A young Auckland man was last night fighting for his life after being hit by a car after returning some movies to a Glenfield video store.
Constable Blair Atkinson from the Serious Crash Unit said the man, who police were still trying to identify last night, had just come out of Civic Video and was crossing Glenfield Rd when the accident happened about 1pm.
He was hit by a 1997 Honda Prelude, which was heading east along the road. Witnesses said the man connected with the front left-hand side of the car and was thrown on to the bonnet before hitting the windscreen.
A St John spokesman said the man was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.
North Shore police would like to hear from anyone with information about the identity of the injured man, who is described as European, 1.7m tall and weighing about 85kg. He is balding with reddish facial hair and blue eyes.
Police say he was wearing a dirty cream baseball cap, a blue T-shirt with "Independent truck" on the back and "guilt to grind" on the front, a dirty cream long-sleeved shirt with black stitching, a pair of grey cargo pants and black-and-white Vans shoes. He also had a pair of black-and-red sunglasses.
