A Hastings businessman who has pleaded guilty to taking photos under women's skirts has an undie fetish, his lawyer told court.
The 48-year-old man, a father-of-three, pleaded guilty in Hastings District Court yesterday to two charges of making the intimate recordings of unsuspecting victims.
He was sentenced to 400 hours' community work after being granted interim name suppression.
The man, in court with his wife, was caught after using his cellphone to take a photo under a woman's mini skirt in The Warehouse in Hastings on February 13.
The woman's mother saw what he was doing and when he was confronted he ran from the store. He was chased by an off-duty police officer who noticed him frantically pushing buttons on the cellphone, the Dominion Post reported.
An analysis of the man's computer hard-drive, seized from his home, revealed he had taken hundreds of video and still images up women's skirts.
Defence counsel Bill Calver said his client had a fetish for women's underwear but had only one previous conviction, 25 years ago.
