A large undersea earthquake shook the east coast of the North Island shortly before noon today, but there were no reports of damage.
The quake, registering 5.9 on the Richter scale, was centred 730km northeast of Auckland and 350km south-west of Raoul Island, GNS Science reported.
It was at a depth of 418km and struck at 11.47am.
