Underground catering for Orewa tunnels dinner

A charity dinner for 2000 people will be held in the two tunnels of the Northern Motorway extension from Orewa to Puhoi late next month.

Organiser and Rodney District Council member Dave Parker said the Night at the End of the Tunnel celebration on November 29 would be a sit-down dinner and entertainment.

Mr Parker said it would be a "once only" experience to dine in the 340m long tunnels through Johnstones Hill. Proceeds would go to Rotary clubs' youth charities.

Traffic will not get to use the tunnels until the motorway extension is opened early next year.
