Close finishes were the order of the weekend for matches in Netball Wairarapa's premier one competition.
In four of the five games played the difference between the two competing sides was in single figures, the only exception being the Harcourts v Makoura College encounter at the Genesis Recreation Centre, which saw unbeaten Harcourts prevail by 55-23. It was still a brave effort from the young Makoura side who battled hard.
The other match at the recreation centre saw Pioneer continue their improvement with an upset 42-37 over Wairarapa College A, while at the Colombo road courts Carterton Legends used their experience to telling effect in beating Fagan Hot Shots 46-38.
St Matthews Collegiate moved to a clear second place on the points table with their nail-biting 42-20 win over NZCU Baywide Gladstone All Blacks and Carterton New World Lynx picked up a surprise 43-42 victory over Kuranui College in a thriller.
