Wairarapa has provided three of the six winners of junior umpire badges recently awarded by Table Tennis New Zealand.
They are Myles Collins, Daniel Haxton and Jori Quaedvlieg who successfully completed both the theory and practical elements for the badge which is open to persons aged under 19 years of age.
The trio were also contenders for Table Tennis New Zealand's junior boys umpires award at the national championships played in Christchurch in September.
Candidates had to be nominated by their own associations who in turn were required to organise their tutoring.
In Wairarapa's case the tutoring was in the hands of the Wairarapa association's official coach, Paul Escott of Wellington, and he obviously did a fine job as Haxton, 13, won this award through gaining the highest marks in both the written and practical sections.
Haxton was joined by Brad Peterson and Orion Slater in the Wairarapa under-15 boys C grade team which placed third at those championships while Collins, Quaedvlieg and Caleb Haxton combined to win the under-15 boys B grade teams title for Wairarapa.
