KEY POINTS:
The 2008 New Zealander of the Year in the UK has been named.
It is Dr Ian Conrich, the Director of the Centre for New Zealand Studies at the University of London.
Dr Conrich was presented the award in recognition of his achievements in establishing the Centre for New Zealand Studies last year.
The award recognises the outstanding contribution a New Zealand or British national has made in presenting a positive image of New Zealand in the UK.
Past winners include golfer Michael Campbell and celebrity chef Peter Gordon.
