A local council in England has begun advertising jobs for New Zealand and Australian social workers because it cannot find enough British candidates. Essex County Council has hired job search firm Synergy to recruit between 40-60 social workers from New Zealand, Australia and Ireland on salaries of between 27,500 ($71,100) and 42,000 ($108,600).
Synergy's website says, "the campaign to bring in around 60 social workers from overseas begins this week", adding that successful candidates will be offered "generous salaries", as well as relocation allowances, free accommodation for the first four months, a car lease deal plus money for a visit back home.
