SEAN JARVIS batting for Wairarapa against the Sydney under-16 representative cricket team this week. The visitors despatched their Wairarapa District counterparts with consummate ease in a tour game at the Queen Elizabeth Park Oval in Masterton.
The side was in the region as part of a five-match series spanning 10 days in the North Island.
Having already beaten an Auckland Grammar development side and St Kentigern's College the Australian youths amassed 211 with Robbie Anderson providing the chief resistance in taking 3-22.
In reply the home side were all at sea, falling to 51-9 with Joel Mackelin top-scoring with 22 before the tail-end resisted the inevitable to draw the match out a moment longer.
Sydney coach Bruce Wood said the side resided at Rathkeale College while in Masterton and had thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the region.
"Everyone has been really welcoming and we've been very impressed the weather has held out," he said.
"Brendon Bracewell has put us up out at the Academy and we really appreciate everything he's done, it's been a good time."
