The Wairarapa-Bush Under-15s played Horowhenua-Kapiti in Levin at the weekend, keen to record a win after previous losses.
The effort of playing into a strong wind in the first half paid dividends after 20 minutes when Allan Savaiinaea crashed over for a try, which was well converted by Dylan McGruddy.
Playing with the wind at their backs after the break, Savaiinaea and Ngametua-Angai Paku scored two further tries, with Savaiinaea converting his own try. Horowhenua-Kapiti then came back into the game scoring two tries themselves but Wairarapa Bush finished the scoring when Jahmaine Ripiha dotted down to complete a well-deserved 24-10 victory.
Halfback Ryan Saunders had a strong game for Wairarapa-Bush alongside flanker Madi Mason. Team captain Savaiinaea led by example throughout the game, while Josh Rowlands had a steady game at fullback.
