The Wairarapa under-15 girls hockey team conceded just the one goal in winning their way through to the quarter-finals of their national tournament being played at North Harbour.
In fact, so impressive has been their defence that it 'earned a special mention from tournament organisers after their pool game with Waikato in pool play was labelled "game of the day"
Wairarapa won that match 1-0 and in other pool games lost to Eastern Southland 0-1, beat Poverty Bay 2-0 and drew 0-0 with Auckland. The latter result was enough to edge them into the quarter-finals ahead of Auckland, with Eastern Southland also making the last eight.
Wairarapa's opposition in the last eight came from Northland, who have widely been touted as the tournament favourites.
