KEY POINTS:
Two women have been beaten and one sexually assaulted after a man broke into their Otahuhu house in the early hours of this morning.
Police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow said a 46 year-old woman was woken up by a man in her bedroom and was assaulted.
The victim's mother, aged 67, was woken by the noise and went into her daughter's bedroom where she was also assaulted, tied up and put in a wardrobe, she said.
The man sexually assaulted the other woman before tying her up and putting her into the wardrobe with her mother, Ms Barlow said.
One of the women has been hospitalised with injuries to her face.
Ms Barlow said police will be interviewing the two women over the next couple of days.
A scene examination is taking place today and police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact Counties Manukau police on 295 0200.
