North Island police are investigating two serious assaults overnight.
A man has been hospitalised with head injuries after he was assaulted in a Gisborne park early today.
Police were called to Barry Park about 1am by a local resident and discovered the man, Constable Ben Joll told NZPA.
He had suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the intensive care unit at Waikato Hospital.
It was not known if a weapon was used in the attack, or how many offenders there were, Mr Joll said.
And two teenagers will appear in court later this month to face charges after the drunken bashing of a Havelock North man in Hastings.
The assault on the 37-year-old man in Eastbourne Street, happened about 1am today and was captured on CCTV.
"It was an unprovoked and determined attack by two intoxicated youths on an intoxicated victim.
"The victim was kicked, punched, and hit with bottles by his assailants," Senior Sergeant Stuart Fleming said.
He was treated in hospital for cuts and bruising.
Police caught the youths aged 18 and 19 a short distance away.
They will appear in the Hastings District Court on December 21 charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
