Emergency services battled against the tide to save the injured occupants of a vehicle on Muriwai Beach this morning.
They were told a four-wheel-drive vehicle had rolled on the beach, northwest of Auckland about 9.50am, Inspector Alan Wright of police northern communications centre said in a statement.
Two injured people were trapped in the vehicle, while the tide crept in.
Emergency services worked in the water and eventually managed to free the pair.
The occupants were taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
