Two people are trapped after a head-on crash on State Highway 2 between Bethlehem and Katikati.
The crash occurred about 3.30pm today and the fire service is at the scene trying to free the occupants.
Northern fire communications shift manager Carren Larking said two appliances were at the accident on SH2 between Gill Lane and Munro Road and had removed one person from a vehicle.
Crews were working on getting the other person from the other vehicle.
One passenger was in a serious condition and the other was in a moderate condition.
Police are at the scene and traffic is being diverted along Munro Rd.
