Hamilton police had a busy weekend investigating two stabbings and a suspicious death.
The most recent stabbing happened yesterday at 7.45pm when a girl was stabbed in the stomach in an apparently random attack.
The girl was walking home along Cameron Rd, Hillcrest, near the intersection with Hogan St when
the attack happened.
Police were looking for a man described as a male Maori, aged in his 20s, the Waikato Times reported.
Police are still looking for a weapon after they charged a man, 46, with the attempted murder of his estranged partner following a stabbing in a domestic incident on Saturday.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear said police wanted to speak to anyone who might have found weapons or clothing discarded near Primrose St in connection with the attempted murder.
"The weapon used to stab the woman was described as a knife with a small silver blade 10-15cm in length; we don't know what the handle was made of," Mr Bu Bear said.
Police were also investigating the suspicious death of a man found near some public toilets in the central city on Sunday morning are yet to identify the man, believed to be Pakeha and in his late 50s or early 60s.
His injuries were regarded as suspicious and not consistent with a fall, police said.
