KEY POINTS:
Two men were stabbed in an altercation in a Palmerston North carpark early today.
One of the victims will undergo surgery this morning but the other left hospital without being seen by medical staff. Both men were in their early 20s.
Police say they know who the identity of the stabber and are searching for him this morning.
Detective Sergeant Simon Harrison of Palmerston North police said the incident happened in the Ucol carpark between King and Queen Streets about 3am.
Police had yet to speak to the man in hospital, who had stab wounds to his upper body, and were unsure what led up to the attack.
Mr Harrison said the incident was not gang related, but alcohol may have been involved.
He appealed to any witnesses to contact police.
