A man and a woman seriously injured in a crash that closed a busy Bay of Plenty highway for several hours today are in a stable condition at Tauranga Hospital.
The two-car crash happened on the Te Puke Highway between the intersections of Welcome Bay Rd and Bell Rd just before 7am.
A Bay of Plenty District Health Board communications spokesman said a 50-year-old Te Puke man and 39-year-old woman from Mount Maunganui were in a hospital ward.
Sergeant Dan Roser of Tauranga police said the female driver of the car and male driver of the ute involved were taken to Tauranga Hospital's emergency department in a serious but stable condition.
There were no passengers or other cars involved. Roser said the crash happened on a bend.
