A motorcyclist was thrown 20m when he crashed into a ditch swerving to miss a parked car on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Coromandel Airfield about 2.15pm yesterday to fly the injured 44-year-old rider to Waikato Hospital.
The seriously injured man was treated at the scene by ambulance staff, the flown to hospital.
A short time later, the rescue helicopter was called to Matarangi where a 10-year-old boy had gone over the handlebarsof his bike and landed in a ditch trying to avoid an oncoming car.
He was flown to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
