Two people had to be rescued from a vehicle that was left hanging sideways from a tree down a sheer bank after it crashed off a rural Coromandel road yesterday afternoon.

A Northern Fire Communications spokesperson said they found the vehicle held up by a tree 10m below the road, but held up by a tree, with a 22-year-old woman and 29-year-old man, both from Thames, secure inside.
Both were unharmed successfully removed from the vehicle using a ladder after fire crews smashed out the back window.
