KEY POINTS:
Two men are recovering from smoke inhalation after their home burst into flames early this morning.
A fire communications spokesman said fire officers were called to the residential house just before 4am.
"The house was well involved by the time they got there," he said.
The fire was extinguished by 6am but there was still an appliance at the scene dampening down hotspots.
A Rotorua police spokesman said the house was "extensively" damaged.
Fire safety investigators were at the scene today to determine its cause.
