Four people have been injured in two separate collisions between cars and trains at railroad crossings in the South Island this morning.
A car was hit by a train at the Harewood Rd crossing in Christchurch at 2.43am. Three of the vehicle's occupants were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The car's driver has been processed for drink driving and police are awaiting results.
An hour and a half later emergency services were called after a second car was hit by a train at the Dillons Point Rd crossing in Blenheim at 4.20am. One occupant was injured and taken to hospital.
Police are investigating both crashes.
