KEY POINTS:
Two people are dead after a car and van crashed north of Huntly, leaving one of the vehicles on fire.
Inspector Ian Brooker said the crash happened on State Highway 1 near Huntly at an intersection with Fisher Rd.
Two people are confirmed to have died at the scene and one of the vehicles was reported to have been on fire, he said.
The road has been closed and a detour is expected to be in place until about 8pm.
Police and emergency services are at the scene .
