A petrol station has had two people own up after its cut-price fuel botch-up.
When the overnight Eftpos pump price at Challenge Riwaka was inadvertently set at 14.4 cents a litre rather than $1.44 on October 21 and 22, 50 people came in and bought petrol, some coming in more than once and buying large volumes.
Challenge management took out an advertisement asking people to pay the difference by this Sunday.
Owner-manager Jeff Rogers said one person phoned him saying she had noticed the low price, but thought the Eftpos display was malfunctioning.
"She said she thought she'd check her card statement later on, but at the time she assumed the machine was reading wrong."
A second person, who Mr Rogers hadn't spoken to personally, had come into the petrol station to pay the extra money.
After Sunday, people who bought the cheap petrol and have not approached Challenge to pay the difference will have their Eftpos details passed on to the Motueka police.
