Police are looking for two men in connection with the attempted rape of a woman near a Lower Hutt railway station this morning.
The attack happened as the woman was about to enter a subway leading to Pomare station on Eastern Hutt Road around 7am.
Police closed down the station to the public until 7.45am.
The investigation was at an early stage and the woman was being interviewed, Detective Sergeant Dean Simpson said.
The two men being sought are described as Maori and aged between 18 and 20.
One witness had been spoken to and police were appealing for any others to come forward, he said.
