Two men have been charged with aggravated burglary after a man was struck with a pipe wrench in his home.
Detective Sergeant Peter Litherland said the victim arrived home about 1.30pm on Monday to find two men stealing about $15,000 of goods, including professional camera equipment.
Mr Litherland said one of the alleged offenders grabbed a pipe wrench and hit the victim in the chest, an injury which required medical attention.
The offender subsequently smashed the victim's car windscreen as the victim tried to drive away and then threw the wrench at the car.
"The level of violence used in this attack was unnecessary and unprovoked. The victim feared for his life and it was seriously threatened," Mr Litherland said.
Two unemployed men in their 20s will appear in Waitakere District Court today charged with a range of offences including aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
