There are two wins for Wairarapa in the New Zealand Post Margaret Mahy Book of the Year awards.
Author Paul Adamson was the winner of the Best Non-Fiction category with his book The Beginner's Guide to Hunting and Fishing in New Zealand, published by Random House New Zealand.
The judges said of Adamson's book: "It is the perfect book for dipping in and out of and for sharing as a family. You can use this book whether you want to hunt with a gun, or bow or even a camera. One of our favourite aspects of this book was the message of safety and responsibility to animals that Paul stresses throughout."
Joy Cowley, who has a house in Featherston, is the winner of the Best Junior Fiction category with Dunger, published by Gecko Press.
The judges said of Cowley's book: "In this apparently simple story, the characters are believable through and through in themselves and in the family relationships. The action illustrates our ordinary lives and our respect for our families and environment - especially our summer holidays."
