KEY POINTS:
There were two deaths on the roads this weekend, both on Friday and caused by vehicles crossing the centre line on straight roads.
A 57-year-old Levin man was killed when he collided with a truck on Tangimoana Rd off State Highway 1 near Bulls, at about 7.40pm.
Senior Constable Chris Craig said it appeared the car had crossed the centre line.
The truck driver and his passenger were left shaken but unhurt.
The driver told police he had swerved left to avoid the car, but it still hit towards the rear of the six-wheeler truck.
Witnesses said the car had been speeding shortly before the crash.
A crash in Christchurch claimed the life of Nathan Raymond King, 28, when his car was hit head-on by a Isuzu four-wheel-drive on Marshland Road shortly before 8.30pm.
Detective Sergeant Greg Cottam said there been reports of the dark blue Isuzu Bighorn driving erratically around the New Brighton area and on Marshlands Road earlier in the evening, and police wanted to hear from anyone who had seen the car.
The Isuzu's driver spent Friday night in hospital.
He was processed for drink driving and police were waiting for the results.
