KEY POINTS:
A man and woman in their mid-20s were killed yesterday when their car crossed the centre line and collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle near Tokoroa.
The names of the victims had not been made public last night, but police said they were from South Waikato. The pair were the only occupants of the car and were killed instantly.
A man in the 4WD, which was travelling in the opposite direction, received moderate injuries and was taken to Tokoroa Hospital.
The collision happened just after 11am and closed a part of State Highway 1 between Putaruru and Tokoroa for three hours.
The road was dry at the time.
