A woman is dead and three people are injured after two cars collided north of Kawakawa, one of two deaths on New Zealand roads this morning.
The crash happened at Three Bridges on State Highway One at 10.35am after an elderly woman travelling north collided head-on with a oncoming car.
Fire Service northern communications shift manager Tony McDonald said firefighters had to cut people from both cars. One person was flown to Whangarei Hospital with serious injuries and two others were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Meanwhile a teenager was killed and another seriously injured when the car they were travelling in crashed into a pole in north Canterbury about 1.45am.
The two men, believed to be aged about 18, were in a car that hit a pole on Flaxton Rd, south of Rangiora.
