The nephew of a man who died after seven months in a coma following a brutal drunken attack in his own home has been jailed for seven years and seven months for manslaughter.
In the High Court at Wellington this morning, Fred John Pokoati, 23, an unemployed Porirua, stood with head bowed as Justice Ronald Young imposed a minimum non-parole period behind bars of three years and ten months for the killing of Etuina Sitili.
His co-accused and friend, Jarrad Clarence Townley, 22, unemployed, was jailed for six years and nine months with a minimum non-parole period of three years and two months.
The pair were charged with murder after Mr Sitili's death in May last year.
They later pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
