Two people have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after a tree fell on their car in Cooks Beach, on Coromandel Peninsula, earlier this evening.
The two people were taken to Thames Hospital by ambulance after emergency services were called to the scene on Purangi Rd shortly before 5pm, St John's northern communications team manager Glen Taylor said.
Fire services helped pull the people from the wreckage and are working to clear the road.
