Two women are in hospital after a vicious dog attack in an Otaki Beach driveway this morning.
The women, aged 48 and 67, suffered serious injuries when they were attacked by two "pitbull-type" dogs.
The Kapiti District Council said the 48-year-old woman, a neighbour of the dog owner, was the first to be attacked at her home in Otaki Beach.
"The 48-year-old woman was extensively bitten on the arms and legs and there are some wounds to her neck," said a council spokeswoman.
A 67-year-old woman was passing by when she witnessed the attack and came to the woman's aid.
