A plane crash at Dannevirke yesterday afternoon has left two occupants in hospital with back injuries.
Eye witnesses reported the aircraft crashed from about 20-metres in the air just after takeoff.
It was seen descending and banking to the left before striking the ground.
The two occupants were able to free themselves from the wreckage.
The 51-year-old pilot was flown to Palmerston North Hospital by the Square Trust Rescue Helicopter with back injuries, while the passenger was transported to hospital by road.
It is not known what caused the accident.
