Two people are seriously injured in Tauranga Hospital after being thrown out of the back of a car.
Tauranga police say a man driving a black Honda made a rapid reversing manoeuvre when he spotted a checkpoint at Mt Maunganui.
He ended up smashing into another car, sending two passengers through the back window.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders says two people in the other car were also hurt.
Police are looking for anyone who saw the Black Honda before last night's crash, which was in the Tauranga-bound lanes of the harbour link.
