Two people are seriously injured after their car crashed through a barrier and down a cliff in Kerikeri early this morning.
The pair were rescued after the Hilux station wagon they were travelling in left Opito Bay Rd around 1am, crashing 50 metres down the steep bank and coming to rest on its side, police said.
One of the occupants was trapped under the vehicle.
Emergency services spent around 90 minutes working to stabilise the car and extract the trapped person, police said. Both were treated by ambulance staff at the scene, before being flown to hospital by the Northland Emergency Services Trust rescue helicopter.
Both were in a serious condition.
