Two young men are in police custody after a car chase through South Auckland.
The pursuit began about 1.10pm in Otara when police noticed a "suspicious" car and ended in Pakuranga 20 minutes later, Counties Manukau police communications officer Ana-Mari Gates-Bowey told NZPA.
Two police cars and a helicopter tracked the vehicle as it hit speeds over 100km/h.
When it entered a reserve police put down road spikes on the only exit, trapping the men - one aged 17, the other in his mid-20s - who gave themselves up.
Ms Gates-Bowey said 10 police units had been used to block off streets and at no time were any members of the public in danger during the pursuit.
It was not yet clear what charges the pair may face.
