KEY POINTS:
There were fires in two suburban areas of Wellington overnight but no injuries have been reported.
Firefighters were first called to a home on Walter Road, Lowry Bay in Lower Hutt at 11.18pm yesterday.
The house was well ablaze when they arrived and fire crews worked to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby properties.
A second callout came at 5.20am today, to a two storey building on Kelburn's Upland Road.
Central fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said there were initial reports of people still inside the building but a sweep by firefighters did not find anyone.
