KEY POINTS:
Police say a man who tricked his way out of custody in the Waitakere District Court on Thursday is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Wehi Moana, 22, of no fixed abode, escaped after appearing in court on multiple charges, including assault with intent to rob.
Detective Sergeant Megan Goldie said Moana walked out of the court after hoodwinking staff.
She said Moana, who the Weekend Herald understands had got into a fight with another detainee, was "probably dangerous" and should not be approached.
"It's best for people just to notify the police and let us know where he is rather than go up to him."
At 113kg and 178 cm in height, Wehi is overweight, has a shaved head, no facial hair and his tattoos includethe insignia "West" on his right forearm.
Meanwhile, Waitakere police are also seeking information on the whereabouts of Lincoln Moss of Henderson, who escaped from custody at the Henderson police station yesterday.
The unemployed Moss is facing multiple charges, including burglary, supplying false details and possession of a knife.
The 33-year-old, who also goes under the aliases Ray Moss or Lincoln Ray Moss, is 176 cm in height, of medium-thin build with brown hair and brown eyes.
He is not considered dangerous but is understood to have gang connections and many associates in the West Auckland area.
