Has drink-driving affected your life?
Tell us your story.
This country's drink-driving limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood - the same as Britain and the United States - but Australia and most of Europe use a limit of 50mg per 100ml, also referred to as a 0.05 limit.
Only Parliament can change the law. But we can help change attitudes. Our campaign will encourage people to regulate themselves, and to not drive if they've had more than two drinks.
Businessman and philanthropist Owen Glenn explains why he is supporting the Two Drinks Max campaign:
Do you support lowering the drink/drive limit to 50 mg - already in place in many countries and recommended by NZ police, MoT and Alcohol Healthwatch?
As a proud Kiwi and philanthropist I give my 100 percent support to this policy of lowering the legal drinking limit to 0.05. In fact I believe it is way overdue.
If we want to continue to increase New Zealand's global footprint through both business and tourism, we need to put measures in place to ensure the world stands up and takes notice of us. Lowering the legal
drinking limit to 0.05 shows that New Zealand is not only a safe place to live and holiday but also aligns with current world practices of other forward-thinking nations.
It's time to let go of ancient policies and time to start saving
lives.
Will you pledge your name to the Herald on Sunday's Two Drinks Max campaign?
As an international businessman who takes pride in calling himself a
New Zealander, I fully pledge my name and support to this campaign.
Let's do more than talk about lowering the limit, let's not tolerate drink driving and let's enforce it.
Why do you think it's important to get behind the campaign?
I'm backing this campaign because I believe that consuming any amount of alcohol before getting behind the wheel is only asking for trouble.
Through my philanthropy work I constantly see people living in poverty, suffering starvation, having little or no sanitation, hygiene or medicinal remedies available to them and I assist them by providing the essentials they need to help them help themselves.
When I return home and hear of the tragic losses on our roads due to alcoholism and neglect, it makes me angry that as the lucky ones we are abusing our freedom, our health and our way of life when we have a choice. Many others simply don't have the freedom of choice that we do, so when it comes to choice, let's all of us choose "responsibility."
Have you, your friends or family been involved in a drink-driving crash or been a victim of one?
No, but plenty of others are affected which is why I want to give my
support.
