Two die on roads over weekend

A fatal crash north of Taumarunui yesterday morning took the weekend road toll to two.

A 53-year-old woman died when her car and another vehicle collided on State Highway 4 at Mangatupoto about 11am.

Acting Sergeant Grant Alabaster said four other people were taken to Taumarunui Hospital. Two of them were transferred to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.

On Saturday, Elaine Kingsbury, 80, of Ashburton, died when the car she was in and another collided head-on at 10.45am on Ashburton's Tinwald/Westerfield/Mayfield Rd.

The man who died in a crash at Tokoroa on Friday was Philip Spencer Lawry, 51, of Levin.
