Two people died in car accidents over the weekend but police have not yet named them.
On Saturday, a 29-year-old man died on Colyton Road, near Ashhurst, after he hit a concrete pole. No other vehicles were involved and he was the sole occupant. Police are investigating.
Another person died after a two-car crash on State Highway 43 near Taumaranui about 10pm yesterday. Two others were airlifted to Waikato Hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with moderate injuries.
Three other people were injured, one critically, at what police believe was a drag car rally at Tangimoana in rural Manawatu early on Saturday morning. The critically injured woman was in hospital in a "serious but stable" condition, police said.
