Two die in two-car crash at Taupiri

Two people are dead after two vehicles collided at Taupiri, south of Huntly early today.

Police said two vehicles were found upside down shortly after 5am.

The driver of the car heading towards Taupiri and a male passenger in the other car both died at the scene. The driver of the other car was taken to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.

Police closed the road and diverted traffic as firefighters cleaned up and serious crash investigators studied the scene.

Early investigations showed the car heading towards Taupiri crossed the centre line into the path of the oncoming car.

No other details of the dead or injured people were available.
