KEY POINTS:
Police in two North Island provincial areas are investigating suspicious deaths, following the discoveries of bodies in Rotorua and Foxton yesterday.
A man's body was found on a rural property on Wylie Rd, near Foxton at about 5.45am.
And teenagers came across the body of a man in an abandoned central Rotorua building early yesterday.
Inspector Mark Harrison of the Foxton police said a man's body was discovered at a poultry farm just outside the town.
"He was found lying outside on the driveway and he did have some head injuries that have caused some concern."
The man's age and nationality are so far unknown, and forensic teams have yet to complete their investigation. Inspector Harrison said the only indication of the man's age was his grey hair.
Neighbour Bill Dawson said a truck driver told his son, who works at the farm, that he had come in early and found the body.
"Apparently, he was really beaten up and lying on the driveway and his head was bashed in.
"He told my son that he had found him and then called the cops.
"We don't really know that much, we're just waiting to hear more, like everyone else."
Wylie Rd resident Nick Berry was having a party on Friday night and noticed a vehicle outside the farm, half a kilometre up the road.
"Some friends saw a white car with lights on parked outside, and it was still there this morning. I don't know if it's relevant, but it was gone a bit later."
St John Ambulance duty manager Frank Angilini was on the scene in the morning.
"They had found him lying up the driveway, and he had horrific head injuries."
Wylie Rd is likely to be cordoned off for at least another day as the police investigation continues.
Meanwhile, Rotorua police say the body of a man was removed late yesterday from the first floor of the multiplex site in the Post Office building, between Hinemoa and Pukeatua Sts.
Local business owners say the site is frequented by people living rough and has been the subject of at least one arson attack.
The building remains cordoned off and scene guards were posted overnight to prevent anyone from entering.
A post mortem examination will be conducted today in Auckland. Police expect to know the results of that tomorrow morning.
They still don't know who the man was, and would like to hear from anyone who has information about him, or who has been in the building in the last week.
A police source said it was believed the man was aged in his 50s and had suffered head wounds.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 0800 TIPOFF (0800 847 633).
