An air crash investigation has been launched after two people were killed in a microlight crash in a remote area of Kaipara, north of Auckland.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the microlight was believed to be en route from Ohakea to Dargaville when it was reported missing at noon today.
Police said the wreckage was found in a paddock by the owner of a farm on Fuller Rd in South Head, about 31km north of Helensville, who alerted emergency services shortly after 2pm.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including a rescue helicopter with a medic on board, but both of the aircraft's occupants were found dead.
A Fuller Rd resident said she had not seen or heard an aircraft or a crash, and there was no smoke in the area.
