KEY POINTS:
Two people are dead and several others injured after a head on collision between a truck and car at Otamita, north of Gore, last night.
The accident happened at the intersection of State Highway 94 and Otamita Rd about 8.40pm.
The Ford Falcon car had four occupants.
The driver and passenger died at the scene, the two other passengers were uninjured.
The deceased have not yet been named but were believed to be in their early 20's and from Mataura.
The male truck driver was uninjured.
Police believe the Ford was in the wrong lane when it went around a corner.
"This is a another tragic road fatality situation for the area which will no doubt effect the small town of Mataura and support services will be involved for all those that have been effected by the crash," said Senior Sergeant Richard McPhail.
The road was closed for several hours but reopened shortly after midnight.
