KEY POINTS:
Two people are dead after a train collided with a car at a railway crossing on State Highway 1 at Ohingaiti, 34km southwest of Taihape.
Hector Douglas of the police central communications centre said emergency services were at the scene of the collision, which happened about 7.45am.
Two occupants of the car died at the scene.
The road was closed and there were no diversions in place.
