Two males died when a car hit a tree and rolled in rural Tirohanga near Taupo late last night.
The crash happened on Tirohanga Rd shortly before 11pm, the Fire Service said.
A woman injured in the crash was taken to Rotorua Hospital in a moderate condition. She was still in hospital this morning.
A police spokeswoman said space was cleared for a rescue helicopter at the scene but could not confirm if it was used. There were gusty winds in the area at the time.
The serious crash unit attended the accident and completed its work overnight.
