Police are investigating incidents at two dairies on Saturday night.
The owner of a Four Square store is in Palmerston North Hospital after several people entered the Langley Avenue shop in Milson at 6.30 in the evening.
The owners managed to detain one offender until police arrived, and another person was located later on.
Sergeant Mark Oliver says police are not yet able to say whether a weapon was involved.
In Christchurch a man has robbed a dairy in Tuam Street. Police say he went into the shop around quarter to six and pulled out a handgun before demanding money.
Inspector Mike Coulter says the man left with a small sum of cash and some tobacco. The offender is described as Maori, wearing sunglasses, a grey hoodie with a cap underneath, and dark pants.
